What was one problem John Smith had upon his arrival to America? Because he was considered a troublemaker, some men had plotted to kill him. The land John Smith had intended to settle had been settled by other colonists. Native Americans attacked their ships upon arrival, and Smith was hit with an arrow. John Smith found out that he was to be replaced as governor of Jamestown by Thomas Gates.
