The development of cities required the construction of walls that would protect them from the dangerous invasions that could occur and that put the population in danger, as well as the commerce and wealth of the city. The construction of these walls was very influential in the emergence and development of mathematics, because the construction required a knowledge of counting materials, measurements and even a certain study on the geometric shapes of the materials used. This also influenced the knowledge of some scientific concepts, which despite being archaic and poorly developed, had a great importance in the construction of the walls.

The development of cities was also influenced by the activity of artisans, who were the artists of the time and who were responsible for creating numerous objects important for social advancement, in addition to creating conventional arts such as paintings, music and poetry, which had a character more religious.
