What is the development in history of slaves in the colonies

In 1501, shortly after Christopher Columbus discovered America, Spain and Portugal began shipping African slaves to South America to work on their plantations. In the 1600s, English colonists in Virginia began buying Africans to help grow tobacco.

Contributing factors  leading  to the harlem renaissance were the great migration of african americans to northern cities, which concentratedambitious  people in places where they could encourage each  other, and the first world war, which had created new industrial work opportunities for tens of thousands of people.
