I think that affirmative action is a needed sacrifice to approach the systematic damage done to American minority groups throughout history, by providing better employment or educational opportunities for them.

Since affirmative action policies were applied, the government had difficulty enacting its programs, even facing opposition from black conservatives, who consider it as patronizing.

Even though many might think that America is free from discrimination, history has shown that when affirmative action programs are shut down, the representation of minorities in work and education institutions drop quickly.

What is the impact of affirmative action on American society today?

Although in the present, federal contractors and subcontractors must apply affirmative action to hire minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans, it´s difficult to fulfill the proposed quotas.  

What alternatives to affirmative action policies exist?

Affirmative action policies should be accompanied by other activities aimed to politically establish a new cultural basis where discrimination doesn't only depend on enforced policies, but also a cultural change.
