The Munich Agreement is one of the most controversial treaties in history. Some people view
Chamberlain and Daladier as cowards who would
give up anything to avoid war. Winston Churchill
said, "England has been offered a choice between
war and shame. She has chosen shame, and will get
war."
Given what you have learned, what alternatives do
you think Chamberlain might have had? Could he
have negotiated a stronger peace treaty with
someone like Hitler? Should he have refused to
negotiate at all?
