The purpose of the meeting is to end the Protestant Reformation. Examine the ideas made by the Pope and decide if you feel this will be an effective method to ending the Protestant revolt. Set up an Index of books, which could not be published, sold, or distributed because they might conflict with teachings of the Catholic Church. 5. Focus on the importance of the seven sacraments. If anyone denies these seven sacraments they shall be excommunicated and declared cursed (sent to hell). In addition: Priests should live a simple life Priests may not marry 6. Support Ignatius Loyola’s desire to set up an “army for Jesus” These clergymen called Jesuits would have the job of getting Catholics to come back by: Setting up Schools Going out as missionaries in Asia, the New World and Africa Taking the vow (promise) of poverty (being poor)
