After the Russian revolution, Ukrainian declared its independence from Russian on jan 28, 1918 and several years of warfare ensued with several groups.  it was one the most devastated soviet republic after the world war II.

The nation's nuclear power plant at chernobyl was the site of the world's worst nuclear accident on Oct 29 1991. this is the relationship between Ukrainian history and geography.
