The Iliad was written by Homer, and it describes the major events of the Trojan War and the siege of Troy. Some of the themes in the Iliad are fate, love, friendship, and honor. It recounts the last 51 days of the Trojan war.

Achilles is the central character and most violent warrior in the epic. He portrayed as being ferocious, hot-headed, and often filled with grief. The Trojan War also became important because the Greek gods played a role in the battle.
