The Korean War lasted between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953, and was fought between the two divided states of North and South Korea, where the former belonged to the Communist Eastern Bloc and the latter was under the tutelage of the Western Bloc. The dividing line between the two regions was the 38th parallel of the corresponding Korean Peninsula. The North Korean invasion caused an uncontrollable retreat of South Korean and US troops, to completely reverse the situation after the Americans landed in the port of Incheon on the back of the 38th parallel and advanced to the Chinese border. This was followed by a Chinese invasion, which again pushed the Americans and their allied troops under the UN flag back into the 38th parallel.

That conflict ended with a treaty, after 3 years, at the same point from which it had begun, without winners, having become the hottest moment of the Cold War.

Although the war did not end in a victory for South Korea nor end the communist threat from North Korea, the conflict served to prevent the total conquest of the peninsula by communism. In this way, the development of South Korea as a sovereign nation was guaranteed, and the entire continental Far East was prevented from falling into communist hands, which would have supposed a probable fall of Japan in said regime as well.
