La principal consecuencia económica consistió en la reducción de consumo, la cual llevó a cerrar a muchas empresas que se vieron afectadas por la falta de demanda.

Además, se redujo notablemente la producción industrial y aumentaron las cifras de desempleo a través de todo el mundo.

Por su parte, Estados Unidos pasó casi 4 años con indicadores económicos negativos.

Consecuencias sociales

En cuestiones sociales, incrementó el fenómeno de desigualdad social y en todo el mundo se presentaron altas cifras de hambre, pobreza e indigencia.

Las tasas de desempleo aumentaron junto con la inseguridad y la criminalidad. Muchas familias cayeron en la pobreza e incluso las personas que conservaron sus empleos, tuvieron una reducción en sus salarios.

Consecuencias políticas

A partir de la crisis mundial en diferentes países, principalmente europeos, surgieron formas de gobierno totalitarias en países como Alemania, Italia y España, que luego originaron la Segunda Guerra Mundial en 1939.

Además, la falta de trabajo y la desigualdad social incrementaron el comunismo como pensamiento político e ideológico, ya que este modelo les proveía a las personas un colchón económico asegurado ante la inestabilidad económica.
