A mountain man (in English : mountain man ) ? Mainly in the 19th century in the United States, he was a hunter, trapper, and explorer who lived in the wilderness. Mountain men were very common in the Rocky Mountains of North America from 1810 until 1880 (with a population peak in the 1840s). Approximately 3,000 mountain men traveled the mountains between 1820 and 1840, the period of maximum collection of beaver fur.
