Explanation:

Following the news that communism was gaining momentum & was spreading around the world in a drastic rate, the US public greatly feared for there to be communist spies and influencers within the United States. This led to anybody who did not fit the "norm" to be a target of attacks from the general public, and the loss of many a reputation of those affected by the incident.
