How did the U. S. respond to actions of the USSR in Europe in the years after World War II?

After WW-II we know that the USSR turned all of the captured territories into puppet states. Actions like the building of the Berlin wall and not allowing any Europe or us adversaries into Germany to give people supplies.  The way the U.S responded to those actions were kinda stupid but some were smart. For example when the Berlin wall was still up the U.S and the USSR both had tanks roll up to the Berlin wall but then both sides backed down. Overall the U.S responses were either showing of brute strength,threatening, or power to the USSR
