Why do you think the mormons were confident that they could prosper in a new environment when they migrated west?

Since  there was not a large Native American presence,and for supporting a large population there was the potential for agriculture.

Explanation:

After the murder of Joseph smith, the founder and prophet of Mormons Brigham Young, in Illinois, became a leader of Mormon and lead them to Utah due to continues mob attack.

Although, the settlement is salt lake but also, they were able to practice agriculture and they (Mormon) saw an opportunity in becoming the majority since there was limited numbers of native American.

here are some major conflicts i found. maybe pick one and do more research on it. (cause i ain't writing 6 paragraphs)

in 1877, the nez perce war took place.

1881 - president james garfield was assassinated.

1882 - the chinese exclusion act was passed.

1883 - a decision in the civil rights cases legalized racial segregation in the united states.

1887 - the dawes act was passed.

1893 - the panic of 1893 took place. (what a creative name)

and there are probably other topics you can find if you just search up "united states timeline," or "conflicts in the 19th century for america."

then once you find a topic you like find out how it affected the people of america and what not. (sorry if this feels a bit short changed, history was and never will be one of my strong topics)

answer: the time zones used to be whatever the local authority wanted them to be. one town might have 6am whenever the sun came up and another town had 6am 10 minutes later.  

the trains had a hard time when their orders said to be at a certain point at 6am.  

6am, but who's 6am.  

the railroads got together and set the time zones more or less along the longitude lines across the country.
