What happened to change that?
Jefferson wanted the capital moved to Richmond, but he was outvoted
The city planners who built it felt that the best location for the nation's
capital would be on prime farmland along the banks of the Potomac
Hamilton agreed to support a plan to move the capital to the South to
gain support for his financial plan.
Washington wanted the capital to be in a place named for him.
