Why did american have sympathy for european countries

In a recent poll taken by the government, most Americans support the Allied side of the war in Europe.  The government poll reveals the following reasons for such support:

• Many Americans feel close to England because of our historical roots, common language and literature, and similar governments and legal systems.

•   Germany’s actions in Europe are seen as aggressive and inhumane in their actions in Belgium.  Hundreds of civilians were shot and killed without a trial, and cathedrals, hospitals, and libraries have been leveled.  (Most Americans say that their knowledge of this information has come from the British press)

• America is tied to the Allies economically.  Before the war, the U.S. traded with France and Great Britain more than twice as much as they did with Germany.  After the start of the war, Allied countries have been flooding the U.S. with orders for war supplies, leading to increased employment and profits for American businesses.  American trade has quadrupled with the Allied Powers, while it has drastically dropped with the Central Powers.

In addition, the United States has loaned over a billion dollars to the Allied powers in order to finance their war efforts, while their loans have to the Central Powers are less than $30 million.  Only an Allied victory will ensure repayment of these loans!

i confess that there are several parts of this constitution which i do not at present approve, but i am not sure i shall never approve them: for having lived long, i have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which i once thought right, but found to be otherwise. it is therefore that the older i grow, the more apt i am to doubt my own judgment, and to pay more respect to the judgment of others.
