The sectional crisis among the southern and the northern states relate to incorporating territories whether it would be free state or slave.The problem began after the American Mexican war when large territories were occupied by the US.From 1848 to 1860, many often new states were in controversy if they will be elected as free or slave states.The balance of powers in the South and North states was important as the North wanted a free state, and the South wanted slaves.The southern states favored slavery because of their economy as they were largely involved in plantations.The northern states had industries and institutes.

Therefore we can conclude that the rise of sectional tensions was related to the entry of free and slave states in America.

The southern states favored the slavery as a fact of life while the northern states were against slavery and wanted better and equal lifestyle for the slaves also. Moreover the northern states were rich and the southern were poor and had lesser number of factories compared to north.
