What roles and rights did women have in the colonial society

In colonial society women had no rights. They were expected to cook, clean, and take care of the family, and if they were unwed they had to live in their fathers house and help take care of their siblings while simultaneously looking for a suitor.

this was done so the church could remain in control of what their teachings were and to enhance their importance and power, while also being able to judge people's actions through information that was unavailable for the general public.
