Contras were the rebels of Nicaragua that got assistance from CIA of US. US supported these groups as they were fighting against the regime which was supporting Soviet communist countries like Russia.

America supported military aids furtively and they were also paid for America selling Arms and ammunition to Iran secretly. Contra is also called Nicaragua Resistance. They carried out many brutal assassinations of the Government officials. Contras were Anti-Sandinista Guerilla fighters who were aggressively slaying people in order to overthrow the autocratic Sandinista Government.

Elections were decided between Sandinista Government and the Contras. Sandinistas experienced their downfall which gradually led to a civil war. The civil war continued in spite of brutal civil deaths and damage to properties. Contras were incessantly funded by US.
