A direct effect of Hamilton and Jefferson’s disagreement over the role of the Federal government is the decision to pay back foreign debts (A). The Federal government has been authorized by the Constitution to pay debts, levy and collect taxes, and also borrow money.

1970’s conflict between Hamilton and Jefferson employed a great impact on American history. Hamilton who is from The Federalist represented the urban mercantile concerns of the seaports. While Jefferson from The Antifederalist represented rural and southern interests. The debate between the Federalist and Antifederalist concerned about the power of the central government. The Federalist supporting the former and the Antifederalist encouraging the states’ rights.  

Hamilton drew attention to that America needed credit for industrial development, operations of the government and commercial activity. He also stated that America needed complete support and faith from the people. Hamilton also insisted on the full payment and a plan where the Federal Government expropriated the debts during the Revolution.  

On the other hand, Jefferson promoted a decentralized agrarian republic. He wanted a central government which was strong and on its foreign relation. He didn’t want a central government which was strong in other respect. He once stated that he wasn’t a friend to a very energetic country. It implied that he dreaded tyranny and believed in freedom.  

The United States needed both of their thoughts. It was The USA fortune having them. Thus, the Constitution allowed the National Government to borrow money, pay debts, levy and collect taxes. A National bank would help in performing these functions efficiently.
