Until the Reign of Emperor Constantine the Great which lasted from 306-337 A.D, Christians were violently persecuted for their beliefs. Constantine himself was a Christian and thus wished to see his own Brothers and Sisters of the faith sparred the fate of death. Thus in 313 A.D, He was a great influencing factor in the acceptance and eventual proclamation of the Edict of Milan, which as a whole stopped the Persecution of Christians and eventually paved the way for Christianity to become the State Religion of Rome later in 323 A.D.
