This is the motto used by the US during and after their declaration of independence from Great Britain, and laid to foundation as well as the rallying cry against the tyranny of the U.K. This is a motto similar to the another they use (Join, or Die), as both have the common goal of uniting the states together into one, and helping each other in defending their homes.
