The Pilgrims had arrived to Massachusetts in 1620  as English settlers who were seeking to leave England to bypass the authority of Church. The Pilgrims went on further explore Plymouth where the first contact between the Pilgrims and Wampanoag happened. The treaty was instrumental in the sense that it secured peace between Wampanoag and Pilgrims by containing any kind of violence against each other.
