How were many americans opposed to the vietnam war? how did they express their opposition?

Most Americans were opposed to the Vietnam War on moral grounds mainly.  People accused the government of the United States of having imperialistic goals and of getting involved in a civil domestic conflict where their presence was not needed.

The opposition centered itself around the idea of the obligatory military draft which many thought unfair and unjust. Many drafted soldiers were students who had to stop their education in order to fight.

The anti war protesters stressed the exorbitant number of civilian deaths in Vietnam, accusing the U.S. of pointless killing of innocent peasant and of destroying their environment. The battlefield images brought to the TV viewers showed the American soldiers as brutal mass murderers, not concerned about the outcome of the conflict.

The opposition to the Vietnam War was done in a peaceful manner, through demonstrations and debates, they were non-violent events and the participants were students, mothers and anti-establishment hippies, as well as lawyers, educators, clergy and civil rights movement advocates.
