**need with question**why did the government and pullman car company have to conspire in order to defeat the striking pullman workers

The Pullman company was having difficulties ending the strike. They enlisted the help of the government, who attached mail cars to the Pullman train cars. Therefore, the striking workers were “interfering with the mail” which is a federal offense. This allowed the government to come in and forcibly stop the strike.
