How did the interstate highway act improve the united states?

The Interstate Highway Act improved the united States by providing a quick route of transportation to the people that live in the United States of America, and have a route where a lot of people could be on without being too crowded in stop light streets (or side streets). The Interstate Highway Act was launched in 1956 to allow construction of highways that expanded up to 41,000 miles across the whole nation, and that costed about 26 billion dollars. Even though this Act was very expensive, it was worth the time and money making the highways. The highways helped improve the flows of traffic, and help people get to their destinations a lot quicker, so there wouldn't be loads of people in the stop light streets. If it wasn't for this act, there would be more roads with stop lights and there would be a lot of chaos with traffic due to the amount of people that live in the U.S, and commuting or going to places would be very hard. The interstates can have a high capacity limit, meaning that they could have a lot of people in with without having bumper to bumper traffic for long periods of time.
