Providence canyon, often referred to as georgia's little grand canyon, is located approximately 150 miles southwest of atlanta in a portion of the state known as the coastal plain. the clayton formation found here is a red-orange sandy clay that is exposed near the top of the canyon. this is the contact area between the lower layer, called the providence, and the clayton is irregular and uneven. what does this contact area between the two layers or strata indicate?
