Does extreme nationalism among a people also promote unity and acceptance or xenophobia?

Extreme nationalism can provoke xenophobia, because extreme nationalism is the defense of everything that is national so that what is foreign is seen as wrong.  This causes a devaluation and prejudice with the foreigner, that is, xenophobia.
