The proxy war in South Africa, also known as Namibian Independence War, was a disrupted conflict that took place within 1966 and 1990. Moreover, it was embodied within the Cold War confrontation that took place after WWII and during the second half of the 20th century, between the Eastern bloc of communist nations leaded by the URSS, and the Western bloc formed by capitalist countries under the dominance of the US.

The war in South Africa was fought between the South African Defence Force (SADF) and the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), that counted with  material support from the URSS and the People's Republic of China, the two greatest powers within the Eastern bloc. On the other hand, the US offered means to promote the sucess of the SADF.
