Sarah Herbert and her husband spoke out against segregation.

Sarah Herbert was one of the very few white people who, not only supported the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, but she also participated actively.  The boycott started after the refusal of a black woman, Rosa Parks, of standing up and giving her seat in the bus to a white women and her subsequent arrest.

Herbert joined the boycott, protested for equal rights for black people, and used to transport black people in her car. She also went undercovered to Klan meetings in order to gather information about their activities.
