What resulted from the puritan belief that everyone should read the bible?

Men, women, children and servants were required to learn basic reading and writing of the English language. Towns with 50 or more houses were required to hire a teacher and those with 100 or more houses had to get a grammar school teacher, to prepare students for the college.

The Puritans of the 16th and 17th century, were Protestants who were ‘reformed’ and sought to purify the Church of England from its ‘corrupt’ practices. They believed strongly in living by the scriptures and sermons were the main feature of their worship.
