Second is maize or corn that was grounded into flour and used to make tortillas, tamales and even added in some drinks. Today we use corn starch in making candies and as a cattle food. Third would be beans. Ancient Mexicans learned through time that the combination of beans and maize could replace meat. The Aztec had very rich cousine, eating everything from algae to honey, but these tree were the staples we still use today.
