Charlemagne or Charles, The Great, was a French emperor, who was very important for both European Culture and the Catholic Church.

His relationship with the church is a good example of State-Church cooperation for many reasons. His relationship with the church was strengthened by his coronation as "Emperor of the Romans" by the Pope.

Being this close to the Pope, he made many changes in both, his society and the church. He worked hard to unite these two parties. He created libraries to be preserved by Church monks, and also schools, where these monks would teach his children and other nobles' children as well.
