Controlling vast lands throughout the Mediterranean. The Roman control of trade and resources in the Mediterranean gave the empire vast power and allowed them to grow quickly. The Mediterranean control meant the Roman Empire was able to hold vast amounts of land and travel through the water to manage the lands around the sea. Many resources were found in these lands which also contributed to the wealth and power of the Romans.
