Textile factories began using mechanized looms and weavers which created cloth more quickly. Being able to create cloth more quickly meant a higher demand for cotton which was achieved with the invention of the cotton gin.

The cotton gin separated the cotton fiber from the seeds increasing the speed which cotton fiber could be produced which demanded more cotton production. Being cotton was labor intensive this increased the demand for slaves which caused more blacks to be enslaved on Southern plantations.
