What do you think was the appeal of liberation theology to people in latin american nations

The liberation theology was appealing to Latin American nations as they are largely Catholic and also poor. The liberation theology sought to liberate people from the violence of poverty. This was appealing to a people that were largely suffering from hunger, ignorance and disease which were preventable if the governments were effective.
