The Jacksonian democracy began with the administration of US President Andrew Jackson and the political philosophy was widely supported by his supporters.  

The Jacksonian democracy, also known as the Jackson era lasted between the period when Andrew Jackson was elected as the US president until the period when slavery became the major issue in the United States.

The Jacksonian era restructured many institutions and also promoted democratic principles.  

The era marked the end of what is called "the taken over of the government" by the elites.

The Jacksonian democracy favored the presidency and the executive branch to the detriment of the US Congress and also encouraged public participation in the political process.  

The Jacksonian demanded that judges be elected instead of being appointed and extended voting rights to only European Americans.
