on one hand, the spectacular technical revolutions that triggered the processes of industrialization and modernization, have brought huge improvements to the economies and to the general quality of live in developed countries in many senses (housing, health, availability of products to cover our needs, electricity, water systems, gas, etc).

on the other hand, the efficient production systems that can be used to developed high quality consumer goods, can be also applied to produce weapons. therefore, industrialization and modernization has also led to the perfectioning of weapons, these are now more effective and therefore, more lethal. for example, complete regions can be destroyed forever just in a minute, if a nuclear bomb is thrown.
