Well, here's an answer coming from a preschool teacher.
We help the kiddos learn to write their names, learn colors and shapes. In preschool they usually aren't potty trained yet so that's a fun job of ours. We also help prepare the children for kindergarten by teaching them manners and motor skills.
It's something that's very important and shouldn't be avoided--- IF the parent is away often.

Preschool helps your kid with valuable social skills and they can get a feel for what school is like thats my best guest.
