A 15-year-old boy is brought to the emergency department after a twenty-foot fall while performing stunts on his skateboard behind a large retail business. He was not wearing any protective gear and his friend reported that he struck the back of his head on the pavement when he fell. The friend also reported that the patient was unconscious for several seconds after the fall. In the ED, the patient was conscious and did not complain of any pain or physical discomfort. During a physical exam, the boy appeared to be in perfect health. An MRI of his neck and neck reveal no evidence of trauma. He was admitted overnight for observation.
