4.03 Discussion: Healthy Choices Your life is determined by your choices. What kind of person do you want to be? You simply need to decide who you want to be and what you want your life to look like. Take a minute to picture what kind of person you want to become. The only way to achieve your goal is to continue to make choices that support the picture in your head. If you want to be healthy, you need to make healthy choices. It is easier said than done in most cases, but it is important to stay focused on your own health and life goals. As they say, YOLO (you only live once)!

Select the link to watch the Finding a Balance CDC video. Contemplate what the message of the video is and use that as a reference to prepare for the discussion. Now answer the following questions and post your responses using the Discussion: Healthy Choices assignment link:

Analyze the healthy and unhealthy dietary practices of the students recorded in the table. What advice would you give each of the three students if you had the chance? Be sure to include what you have learned about nutrition.
Describe the steps you should you take to maintain or enhance the health of your skin, teeth, eyes, and ears. What are the immediate consequences of personal and dental hygiene choices? What are the long-term consequences?
Explain the importance of establishing a personal dietary and exercise plan for your life. How will these plans support your short-term and long-term goals?
Environmental factors can make following personal dietary and exercise plans difficult. Address each of the three environmental factors below and come up with a solution to each scenario. Then explain how your solution supports your own plan.
A. You are really hungry and the only food around is in a vending machine.
B. You walk into the bowling alley with your friends and it is filled with secondhand smoke.
C. You are on the first floor of a building and you have the choice to walk up six flights or ride the elevator.
It feels great to have a healthy meal after a good workout. It feels even better to do your best and contribute to a sports team. Describe the mental, physical, and social benefits of regular exercise and fitness.
