Osmosis on the other hand is when water is transmitted from one-place to another.

This is a very important KEY NOTE to remember about water molecules: Water molecules will always travel from a low concentration of solute to a higher concentration of solute.

Hypertonic: When a cell sits in a solutions that has a HIGHER concentration of solute than that of the cell, the water within the cell will travel from the cell out of it and into the solution.  Causing the cells to shrivel.

Hypotonic: There is a higher concentration of solute within the cell than that of the solutions solute concentration. Causing the water molecules from the solution to travel into the cell, where there is a higher concentration of solute. Causing the cells to burst.

Isotonic: Equal amount of solute in the cell and its external environment, allowing the water molecules to travel at an equal pace.
