Why is it necessary to have laws protecting workers? what would happen if all labor laws, discrimination laws, and sexual harassment laws did not exist?

if these laws didn't exist then kids below the minimum working age could possibly be forced to work (labor laws). also, it wouldn't be illegal to not give somebody a job because of their race, skin color, gender, gender identity, or sexual identity.
