1. We have learned that there are three different muscle types (skeletal, cardiac, smooth) found in the body. Please describe each of these muscle types. Where would you find each type and how do we use them? 2. What are the three different types of muscle contractions that you might experience during a workout? List, briefly describe, and give examples for each one.

3. There are six skill-related areas of fitness: agility, balance, coordination, power, speed, and reaction time. Please choose three of these skill-related areas of fitness to describe.

4. Please briefly explain four of the seven tips for staying safe and using good judgement while being active. Your choices are: be careful, be a good listener, be correct, be smart, be yourself, be warm, be cool.

5.How are hormones and glands related to physical activity? Please write two or three sentences explaining what happens with hormones and glands during physical activity.

6. Of the three types of muscle contractions, we have discussed (eccentric/lengthening, concentric/shortening, and isometric/steady), which one do you think you experience most often during a normal day? How about if you are doing a physical activity? Please give examples for both a normal day muscle contraction and a physical activity muscle contraction.

7. Some people say that cardiovascular exercise is more important than strength or muscle training. Do you agree or disagree with this? Please explain why you agree or disagree.

8. Why do you think it is important to take care of and strengthen your muscles? What can happen if you don’t pay attention to your muscles?

9. People with certain conditions such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis, or high-blood pressure need to be extra careful when exercising. Please choose two of these conditions and talk about the ways that a person should be careful when exercising for each condition.

10. The unit tells us that “every activity you do is making you stronger, healthier, and happier” and “the real gift of fitness is the way it makes you feel inside.” What are some other types of things, besides physical activity, that affect the way that you feel inside and your health? Please give examples of two things that would create positive effects and two things that would create negative effects.
