Why is access to healthcare a hot-button issue in the United States?

It's such a delicate and political / opinionated question.

Though not a long answer, it's simple. Everything in the United States is steamed from a political / racial issue which divides us. In the end, people want to be divided on issues and not come to a short of compromise. Unfortunately, one makes decisions off of what political party their in even amidst their genuine individual opinion even when it comes to healthcare.
