Intake of too much antacids leads to enhancement in the bicarbonate in the blood leading to primary bicarbonate excess that further leads to alkalosis. Metabolic alkalosis is a condition in which the blood becomes alkaline and its pH value increases above 7.5.  

Due to high alkalinity, the level of aldosterone increases and excess of potassium is lost by urinary excretion.

In response to this, the kidneys combat alkalosis by increasing amount and rate of release of excess of bicarbonate ions through the urine
