A client with bronchiectasis is admitted to the nursing unit. The primary focus of nursing care for this client includes

bronchiectasis is a respiratory system disorder that is characterised by damage of the airways of the lungs following infection or certain conditions like cystic fibrosis and pneumonia.

Explanation: The primary focus of Nursing Care for this patient will include; improvement of activity tolerance, breathing pattern,airway clearance and gas exchange.

This can be achieved through encouraging alternate activities with rest periods, postural drainage by positioning the patient in such a way as to drain the bronchiectatic area by gravity inorder to reduce the amount of secretion and the degree of infection.(left or right lateral position)

Psychotherapy to alleviate anxiety and worries

Education on the need to cease from habits and lifestyles that increase amount to mucus and hamper it's removal.

Administration of bronchodilators example; Aminophylline and salbutamol to give room for more gas exchange.

Administration of prescribed antibiotics to combat infectious process.
