1st stage: Denial. Since grief is usually known to occur due to large losses, some may find the thought of losing something or someone so important to them impossible. They may start denying it, wondering if they misheard something, or start thinking that it may have been some sort of sick joke someone else made.

2nd stage: Anger. After one goes through denial, anger usually follows. Anger is known to be another emotional response that usually occurs when someone feels wronged. In this case, anger will usually occur, they may take out their anger on the messenger who brought the devastating news to them, or someone else in the general vicinity.

3rd stage: Bargaining. After the stage of anger, the person in question will likely start to bargain with others about something. They may start asking them if there's a way to fix what happened, thinking of ridiculous thinks such as bringing back the dead or making money appear out of nowhere.

4th stage: Depression. After the 3rd stage, depression starts to occur. The person in question goes into a deep depression that they may not recover from for a while. They start to feel extremely sad at whatever loss that had just occurred to them, and block out all positivity, be it from the outside world, or from within.

5th stage: Acceptance. This is the final stage of grief. Acceptance is when one begins to understand and accept what has truly happened to them. This stage may occur after a while, due to the longevity of the 4th stage, depression. At this time, the person in question starts to understand that there is no way to fix what has just happened, and they start to move on from whatever terrible thing happened before.
