Each year around 20,000 americans die from injuries in the home and another 21 million are injured. we most often think
of our home as being safe places, but homes are second only to motor vehicle accidents in claiming lives. most of these
accidents may be prevented by taking precautions. each home should have first aid supplies on hand, gathered in one
place ready to be used in case of an emergency.
use the basic supplies list below to inventory the first aid supplies in your home.
antiseptic medications (hydrogen peroxide, iodine)
ibuprofen/acetaminophen, aspirin-do not administer aspirin to children and teens
calamine lotion or other anti-itch lotion or cream for relief of itching and minor skin irritations
syrup of ipecac - to induce vomiting only if instructed by a poison control center, emergency personnel, or doctor.
band-aids of various sizes
elastic bandages and sterile roller bandages to lend support to sprained or sore muscles
sterile bandages and compresses in sealed envelopes and tape
