The "Monster Study" was a research project that was carried out in 1939 by professor Wendell Johnson, from the University of Iowa. In this study, a group of 22 children from an orphanage in Davenport, Iowa were entered into this study on stuttering and divided into two groups. While a half of the group received positive feedback and positive therapy, the other half were told that they had severe speech problems. It was then ascertained that the negative impact on the negative therapy done on the second group of kids had repercussions on the development of speech of the children on that group. The study was highly criticized and in 2001, the University itself apologized for what was done.
